Zelma Jean Mayle

Zelma Jean Mayle, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022.  Zelma was born November 25, 1936, in Taylor County in Knoxville, West Virginia to the late Esker and Laura Mayle.  She will be remembered for the kindness she showed to others and the love she felt for her family. She was known for her cooking and making the best chicken and dumplings, and her amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome in her presence. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and was also passionate about all things pretty like flowers, birds, and holiday decorations.

Zelma married the late Houston “Doodle” Mayle on February 13, 1953. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and best friends. They were blessed with seven loving children: Kathy Stipe, Karen Miller, Kenneth (Cheryl) Mayle, Kay (Daniel) Neff, Karol Hinkle, Karl (Patricia) Mayle, and Ken (Bonnie) Mayle.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harlan (Evelyn) Mayle, Carrol (Jimmy) B. Mayle, Leo Mayle, Rosco “Jack” (Emma) Mayle, Lemuel (Helen) Mayle, and Robert (Vada) Mayle; sisters, Cozetta “Kate” (Richard) Collins and Josephine “Jose” (Elwood) Kennedy; sons-in-law, Kenneth Stipe and Terry Hinkle; two grandsons, Phillip Miller and Russell E. Brandes II, and one granddaughter, Harper Kirby.

She is survived by her sister, Arlene “Sis” (Lincoln) Mayle; seven children, 20 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Aultman Alliance Community Care Center for their kindness and compassionate care.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, friends may call Noon – 1:00pm at Paquelet Falk Funeral Home in Louisville.
