
Mary Louise Altmann (neé Thewes), of Louisville, OH, gently passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021. She was born on January 31, 1930, the oldest of 13 children to Anthony and Mary (nee’ Roshong) Thewes. Mary Lou was married to Marko (Mike) Spehar until his death in 1997, with whom she had nine children, and later to Claus Altmann, who preceded her in death on November 28, 2021.
Mary Lou was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart of Mary Parish, as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, prayer chain, Red Hat Society, and generously gave to numerous charitable organizations. As the matriarch of a large family, Mary Lou was renowned as a loving and vivacious woman who was deeply involved in the lives of her children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Blessed with an endearing wit and enthusiasm for life, Mary Lou was cherished by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents Mary Lou was preceded in death by siblings, Ann Thewes, Ray Thewes and Cathy Dunlap.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Michael Spehar, Kathy Stull, Judy (Steve) Keim, Joseph (Jean) Spehar, Nancy (Tom) Berens, Paul (Holle) Spehar, Linda (Randy) Farnsworth, Tim (Cheryl) Spehar, and Amy (Darren) McCauley; grandchildren, Hal, Brent, Elizabeth, Kristen, Michael, Josh, Kelly, Katie, Jack, Carl, Laura, Andy, Julie, David, Scott, Corey, Jordan, Morgan, Jason, Justin, Nick, Olivia, and Mason; great grandchildren, include Emily, Colleen, Ava, Jonah, Sophie, Lena, Avery, Elise, Gwen, Ava, Harrison, Samuel, Oleana, Linnea, Kate, and Eva; siblings, Irene Starr, Peg Dowling, Dorothy Shanower, Edie Shanower, Tony Thewes, Rose Thrower, John Thewes, Betsy Hanson, and Patricia Sells.
Calling hours will be at the Paquelet – Falk Funeral Home in Louisville, OH, from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00p.m, Friday, December 17. A funeral mass for both Mary Lou and Claus will be held Saturday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church. Burial will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Sacred Heart of Mary Parish.
I just want to let the family know how much I enjoyed the conversation with Mary. I was blessed with the gift of memories we both shared of our mothers. They were card club members of Sacred Heat Mission club.
She was very happy to get her perm. May you all be blessed and let the memories become the treasures.
