Doris (Jean) Clevenger, at the age of 95, went home to heaven to be with her Lord on February 1, 2024. Jean was born in Akron, Ohio, in 1928 to Vernon A. and Myrtle M. Davidson. She married Martin L. “Bud” Clevenger, Jr., in 1952, and cultivated a large, loving family with him through the course of their life together.
A woman of unshakeable faith and abounding love, Jean was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church in Firestone Park and a powerful prayer warrior. She provided the monthly ‘senior citizens’ luncheon at Grace Baptist Church for many years. Her contributions to dozens of charitable and religious organizations over the years demonstrated her lifelong commitment to bettering her community. Jean and Bud were pillars of the Akron and Summit County communities, where they were best known for the kindness and joy they brought to everyone they met. They were also beloved members of their Leesville Glens community in Carroll County.
Jean was preceded in death by her dedicated husband of 52 years, Bud Clevenger, and her eldest son, David L. Clevenger. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Myrtle Davidson, and was the last remaining of the Davidson girls; her sisters, Juanita (Al) Moutz, Willidene (Don) Harder and Phyllis (Paul) Chinrock were all eagerly waiting at heaven’s gate to welcome her home. She joins her in-laws, Martin L. (Mary) Clevenger, Sr., Joeann (John) Tittle, Mary (Madeo) Rossi and William F Clevenger, in heavenly bliss.
Jean leaves behind her beloved sons and daughters-in-law, Fred (Vickie) and Jim (Kim) Clevenger. Also mourning her loss are her “favorite grandchildren” Andrew, Jason, Megan and Ryan (Michaela) Clevenger. She will be missed by her sister-in-law Pat (Dan) Little and brother-in-law Tom (Chris) Clevenger, as well as dozens of nieces and nephews who all deeply loved their “Aunt Jean.”
Services will be held on February 9, 2024 at Grace Baptist Church, located at 704 N Firestone Blvd. in Akron, Ohio, 44306. Pastor Robert Stephens will officiate. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 11 a.m., with the funeral to begin at noon. Internment immediately following, will be at the East Liberty Cemetery in Green.
