He began his career in telecommunications, later becoming a skilled carpenter, entrepreneur, and eventually a bus driver. James’s love for softball was evident in everything he did. He devoted much of his life to the sport as an umpire, coach, and mentor, helping countless young athletes develop not only their skills on the field but also valuable lessons in teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. Whether on the diamond as an umpire calling a game or as a coach guiding his players, James’s presence was a source of support, encouragement, and respect.
James was preceded in death by George and Marian Wharmby (father and mother), and David Wharmby (brother). He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Wharmby; his children, Michael Wharmby, Mathew and Kara Wharmby, and Kirsten and Daniel Meister; his siblings, Brad and Nancy Wharmby, Dan and Lisa Wharmby, and Cathy Wharmby; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
